At Spoilt Rotten Hair & Beauty Studio, we proudly embrace a “Green” philosophy. We believe that our individual and team efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle can make a huge difference in our communities and the rest of the world, and believe our “Green” philosophy will help make this planet a cleaner, better, more beautiful place.
As Macarthur’s most awarded hair and beauty salon, we not only aim to lift the standards in our industry, but we also hope to lift the benchmark and lead by example. This is why we have won many local, state, national and international awards for our innovation and excellence.
Whilst many items in the salon need to be single use and disposable for client hygiene, we try to reuse items like coffee cups, plates and cutlery etc to reduce plastic waste. We use biodegradable and environmentally-friendly dishwashing, cleaning and laundry detergents made by Pro-Ma Home Products. We collect and send our clients freshly cut hair to Matter of Trust, an organization that turns our clients’ hair into mats or booms for cleaning up oil spills, such as the current big oil spill in the Gulf. For more info visit www.matteroftrust.org
The hair colouring products we use are CHI Ionic Permanent Shine Colour, which are also biodegradable and environmentally-friendly, so we do not wash any chemicals into our waterways. Our hair colours are also safe for any skin & medical conditions and do not have any chemical smell, therefore it doesn’t release any toxins into the air, and is completely safe to be washed down the sink. We recycle as many things around the salon as possible, including glass, plastic bottles, aluminium foil, newspapers and magazines to reduce landfill.
During a beauty treatment, we use numerous candles, not only to create a relaxing ambiance, but this eliminates the need for dimmed lighting. We also only use the lights when a room or area of the salon is in use, and get most of our natural light through or large glass shopfront, which reduces the need for extra lighting. All existing lighting is energy efficient.
We try to save water as much as possible. We do our own laundry, and each load of laundry is used with biodegradable laundry power on a cold setting. We also shampoo our clients’ hair using a shiatsu massage technique, which eliminates excess oil and dirt from the hair, which eliminates the need of us having to perform a second shampoo, which saves us up to 20 shampoo washes per day!
